Stone pyramid on a beach in Brittany

Of the many settings of the Requiem, Gabriel Fauré’s is among the most loved. Compared with the large-scale masterpieces of Verdi, Brahams and Berlioz, Fauré’s setting seems gentle and unassuming, yet this very understated quality contributes so eloquently to the work’s universal appeal. It is impossible not to be moved by the ethereal beauty of this humble masterpiece. Also on the program will be works by Johannes Brahms, Norman Dello and Paul Basler.
