George Frideric Handel’s monumental oratorio, Messiah, makes a profound musical statement of faith, celebrating the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The acclaimed and popular “Hallelujah” chorus highlights this classical favorite. Although often associated with Christmas and the holiday season, it would surprise many to learn that Messiah was not intended to be Christmas music. In fact, the piece was premiered during the season of Lent in 1742. This performance by Voices West appropriately coincides with Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week.
